Liz Gilliam, EdS, MSW has worked as a teacher and social worker, and found that local educational settings often dismissed her research on critical topics like Black girls, critical race theory, and fandom. Rather than abandoning these subjects, Gilliam founded her company, E-616 Consulting, to facilitate meaningful conversations around popular culture and self-care for black women.
Self-described as a ‘Blerd’ (Black nerd), Gilliam has used fandoms to teach Black women and girls what they can accomplish. Most recently featured in The Source magazine, Gilliam has been teaching on Afrofuturism and Fandom and the Black community since 2019. Gilliam uses her educational background to break down complex topics and make them relatable. Her experience as a social worker provides her with empathy to meet people where they are, guiding them forward in their growth.
